DESCRIPTION:In partnership with Royal Ballet & Opera Schools\n\nThe Design Process Applied to the Arts - Practical Workshop\nMembers and friends of the NSEAD London & South-East Art and Design Network Group and NSEAD Regional Network Leaders are invited to register for this RBO Schools Design CPD taking place at the Royal Opera House\, Covent Garden this autumn. \nThis free CPD is part of the Royal Ballet & Opera’s award-winning Design programme\, a curriculum-led teacher development programme designed for school teachers. The RBO team will take you through techniques for teaching stage design to build your students’ research\, creative problem-solving sketching\, model-making and prototyping skills. \nDuring this CPD training\, you will: \n\nLearn practical\, easy-to-implement warm-up and engagement activities to encourage creativity.\nExplore the building blocks of design and learn how to use them to meet the Design & Technology curriculum.\nTry out practical activities that guide your students from the initial creative brief to final design.\nBe introduced to the RBO Schools Design classroom resources.\n\nThe day is suitable for teachers of all key ages and SEND\, as well as those facilitating Design in education in any way. DESCRIPTION:This session is designed for primary and secondary teachers of art and design who want to better understand how progression is built into the Oak X NSEAD art and design curriculum resources. \nIt will explore how knowledge\, skills and vocabulary develop over time within the resources\, and how this progression supports pupils’ artistic understanding from primary through to secondary. It will clarify how sequences are structured\, how progression can be identified across units\, and how teachers can adapt pathways while maintaining coherence. \nThe session will be led by Emily Gopaul\, Art Lead at Oak National Academy\, alongside NSEAD\, and will include practical examples and guidance to support confident planning and teaching using Oak X NSEAD art and design resources across both primary and secondary settings. \nThis session is free and exclusively for NSEAD members. \nRegister\n

SUMMARY:Writing really good conference abstracts
DESCRIPTION:Demystify the abstract writing process and discover practical tips for writing and submitting abstracts to academic conferences and publications.\niJADE has a long history of encouraging the participation of those new to presenting at academic conferences and writing for publication. \nThis practical session is for anyone – including educators\, researchers and artists – who would appreciate time to explore how to write a good conference abstract or get their work ready for academic journals\, such as the International Journal of Art & Design Education. \nThe session will look at what conferences organisers might be expecting in an abstract\, the format that abstracts are expected to follow\, and questions that authors may want to ask themselves whilst writing them. It will discuss how a conference abstract connects to the formal abstract submitted with a written academic paper for journal publication. \nIncluding practical tasks as well as sharing of good practice\, we hope that the session will not only prepare participants for submitting papers to the 2027 iJADE conference\, but will be useful for anyone interested in presenting at conferences more generally. \nSession aims: \n\nTo demystify the abstract writing process for conference presentation papers.\nTo provide practical tips for writing academic conference abstracts (including but not limited to the iJADE conference).\n\n  \nRegister for the workshop\nThis workshop is open to both members and non-members of NSEAD and free to attend. \n_____ \nAt NSEAD we believe our events should be an inclusive\, and accessible experience for all. DESCRIPTION:'Holding Ground' is a one-day online conference exploring continuity\, resilience\, and the long game of adult education.\nThe conference will consider the work artist-teachers do to keep going\, keep making\, keep teaching\, and keep communities thriving despite sector pressures\, funding precarity\, policy shifts\, and personal sustainability challenges. \nHolding Ground speaks to: \n\nsustainability (ecological\, emotional\, professional)\nsurvival (of practice\, identity\, community)\ncelebration (of what has endured and grown)\nresistance (to erasure\, undervaluing\, or policy turbulence)\nstewardship (of learners\, spaces\, and creative cultures)\n\nIt is active\, hopeful\, and rooted in the lived realities of ACL. \n  \nHolding Ground suggested sub-themes\nSustaining practice: how artist-teachers maintain creative momentum\, wellbeing\, and identity over time. \nSustaining pedagogy: teaching approaches that endure\, adapt\, and remain meaningful in shifting ACL contexts. \nSustaining communities: how artist-teachers nurture belonging\, confidence\, and continuity for learners. \nSustaining research: practitioner research as a tool for long-term sector growth\, legitimacy\, and advocacy. \n  \nSubmit an abstract\nThis conference welcomes contributions from artist-teachers working in adult and community learning spaces\, at all stages of their careers.
